How this image converter works
Pick a target format — JPG, PNG or WebP — and this tool re-encodes your image right in the browser, with the format trade-offs stated plainly instead of buried: JPG is smallest but drops transparency (backgrounds become white), PNG is lossless and keeps transparency but runs big for photos, WebP is the modern middle ground that nearly every browser displays. One honest limit worth knowing: browsers can't decode Apple's HEIC format, so iPhone photos in HEIC need exporting as JPG on the phone first — a limitation of every purely in-browser converter, whether or not they admit it.
Image conversion tips
- Photos → JPG (smallest), logos and screenshots with transparency → PNG, web images where you control the site → WebP.
- Converting PNG to JPG flattens transparency to white — right for photos saved as PNG by mistake, wrong for logos that need cutouts.
- PNG to JPG is where the big savings live: a photo accidentally saved as PNG often shrinks 5–10× with no visible change.
- WebP export needs Chrome, Edge or Firefox — Safari can display WebP but its canvas can't always export it, and the tool will tell you rather than silently give you a JPG.
- HEIC iPhone photos can't be read by browsers: share or export them as JPG on the phone first, then convert here.

Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion happens in your browser using the canvas engine, and the converted file is generated on your device. Nothing is transmitted, stored or logged anywhere.
Why did my transparent background turn white?
You converted to JPG, and JPG simply has no transparency channel — every converter fills it with something, and white is the least surprising choice. If you need the transparency, convert to PNG or WebP instead.
Can it convert HEIC photos from my iPhone?
No — browsers can't decode HEIC, so no purely in-browser converter can open them. On the iPhone: Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible to shoot JPG, or share the photo to Files which converts it. Then bring the JPG here.
Is converting JPG to PNG pointless?
Mostly, yes — and it's better you hear it here. PNG is lossless, but wrapping an already-lossy JPG in PNG just makes the file several times bigger without restoring any quality. Convert JPG→PNG only when a form or tool strictly requires PNG input.
Why won't WebP export work in my browser?
Safari and some older browsers can display WebP but can't export it from canvas. The tool checks the actual output and tells you honestly instead of handing you a mislabeled JPG — pick PNG or JPG there, or use Chrome/Firefox for WebP.
